OCQ(V) - EX (Exports General)

The OCQ(V) - EX (Exports General) is the foundation course for all APHA OV export training and appointments. It provides essential information to vets applying to the APHA for authorisation as an OV.

Exports permitted with OCQ(V) - EX

Please note: There may be some exceptions to this, where an OV qualification is not required by certain countries for some types of export. This should be checked with CIT Carlisle and the import country (if for fish, please check with the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (CEFAS) or Marine Scotland Information).

Overview of training for OCQ(V) - EX

The training for the OCQ(V) - EX is all provided online. Topics covered include:

• An overview of the general principles of international trade
• An overview of the legal and professional requirements of certification, in particular the RCVS 10 Principles of Certification and the potential consequences of incorrect certification
• An overview of legal, professional, APHA and destination country requirements and procedures relevant to OVs undertaking export certification
• Export procedures including: roles and responsibilities; the export process from application to completion of travel; meeting documentary, health and welfare requirements; the completion of export certification and use of the APHA website and OV Instructions for exports
• Familiarisation with Defra, GOV.UK, APHA, RCVS and other websites providing relevant information to refresh knowledge

Please note: the OCQ(V) - EX is a prerequisite to all other export OCQ(V)s, with the exception of OCQ(V) - CA (Companion Animals). The OCQ(V) - ES is a prerequisite to the OCQ(V) - EX. Therefore, if you do not hold current OCQ(V) - ES and OCQ(V) - EX qualifications, you must not carry out work related to any other export OCQ(V) for which they are prerequisites, even if the other OCQ(V) is current.

• OCQ(V) - UX (Ungulate Exports)

Revalidation of OCQ(V) - EX

You are required to undergo revalidation for OCQ(V) - EX every four years. This is now part of the revalidation courses for which it is a prerequisite unless it is the only export qualification held.
