What delegates said:
Delegate feedback was overwhelmingly positive from previous events.
‘’A great couple of days here at the 2016 OV Conference! A well organised event, with a really impressive Speaker Programme- including Nigel Gibbens – A great lecture to open the event! And an even better lunch to follow!
Seriously a great atmosphere to the whole thing. Lots of opportunity to chat with fellow OV’s and a chance to really define our role. I’d highly recommend the conference not only for the speaker programme and great CPD but for the service from the Improve International team too, thank you! I’ve put my name down for a place at next year’s already!’
What an enjoyable and informative conference. For many of us in practice, the regulatory side is not the most stimulating but it is extremely important to get it right on every occasion. The speakers made it interesting with the result that we all became engrossed. In the question and answer sessions, we found that many of us had experienced similar problems and in the most part we were guided and reassured as to the correct approach. One concern regarding exports over a weekend was that Carlisle operates on a 5-day week whilst, as we know, air transport is 24/7. Their answer was to phone the regional on call veterinary manager for advice, which I heard from participant, was call Carlisle on Monday!
Nigel Gibbons CVO opened the day pointing out the vital importance of OV work in maintaining the confidence in the veterinary profession both nationally & internationally. Bob Ghandour a veterinary surgeon, who has set up Pet Air UK to provide a service for transportation with emphasis on welfare considerations, took us through the myriad of complications on what would seem a pretty straight forward project. Ian Wright updated us on ticks on the graveyard shift - after lunch. He was introduced as the man to keep us awake and wide awake we were- familiarising us to the threats of Ixiodes, Dermacentor & Rhicephalus.
Improve looked after the inner person with a wide choice of coffees, teas and patisseries. And as for lunch, no lunch boxes but a large appetising self-service selection to be taken to small tables in a congenial dining area. Unfortunately, I had to leave before the conference concluded so missed some more subjects that would have really interested me.
Would I attend again – Certainly I would.
Exhibitors will be back!
A carefully selected commercial exhibition of companies displaying products and services of direct relevance to OVs ran alongside the conference. Many reported great interest from OVs and are already planning their presence for 2018!
